Hello there, the poem you quoted by Joy Harjo is one of my favorites. I am not currently teaching a poetry class, but the last time I did, my students really enjoyed it. Of course, it was right before finals and most of the students were giddy from staying up too late and decided to take the poem to places I was not prepared to discuss. Hope your Thanksgiving was lovely.

Thank you Michelle for your kind comment! I do think there's a lot to dig into here, and I'm not surprised your students took to it. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

Super poem by Joy Harjo, Charlie. I do believe that kitchen tables are used for all sorts of things other than for prepping and eating meals. I'm grateful that my parents always insisted on us eating together at the kitchen table - it's a family tradition I continue. It amazes me how often families don't do this and instead take their food to the sofa. So, praise be to kitchen tables! Hope you enjoy Thanksgiving, and good to hear you had a great time in Paris.

Thank you Yasmin! Praise be indeed to kitchen tables. We were also an "every night at the table, no excuses" kind of family, and though I'm sure I moaned about it at the time, it's a cherished, safe place for me to think about, and absolutely something to be thankful for.
